Description / Vervain
Botanical name: Verbena officinalis
Vervain, one of the most revered herbs among the Druids, was referred to as a "holy plant" by the Romans, who utilised it to cleanse temples and homes.
It has been revered, mystical, and seen as a "cure-all" by many cultures throughout history, including American Indian, Greek, Italian, Chinese, and Mediaeval British/European. Hippocrates, the Greek physician, is regarded as the father of medicine was known to favour vervain.
Vervain, which is abundant in plant-based chemicals called flavonoids, is believed to possess strong anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antispasmodic, and analgesic (pain-relieving) properties.
Vervain is a good choice for people recovering from chronic disease because of its tonic, nerve-restoring, and "lifting" properties as well as its capacity to enhance liver and digestive function. Because it relaxes the intestines, peripheral nerves, and muscles, it acts as an antispasmodic and nervine relaxant, helping tense and sensitive horses perform without "burning up" their energy through anxiety.
