For the past 5,000 years, psyllium has been a component of Ayurvedic traditional remedies in India.
In 1934 Metamucil® was introduced, containing 100% psyllium husks.
Psyllium possesses the remarkable capacity to alleviate diarrhoea and constipation.
It increases stool water, facilitates defecation, and modifies the colonic environment in cases of constipation by trapping water in the intestine. The absorption of surplus moisture and the bulking up of faeces assists diarrhoea.
