Botanical name: Linum usitatissum
Linseed, or flax, has been farmed since at least 5000 BC as a source of linen fibre, but it is now also grown for its highly valued oil. Hippocrates was reported to have prescribed linseed for mucous membrane inflammations.
Omega 3 fatty acids that reduce inflammation and antioxidants that support hormone balance can both be found in flaxseeds. Flaxseed fights sugar cravings and improves hormone balance, skin, cardiovascular health, cholesterol, and digestion.
