Description / Chamomile Flowers
Botanical name: Matricaria chamomilla
The Anglo-Saxons called chamomile "maythen," one of the nine herbs that the god Woden bestowed onto humanity.
The tiny daisy-like chamomile blooms, which the ancient Greeks named "Ground Apple" due to their fragrant nature, are primarily known for their nerve- and digestion-soothing properties.
As a digestive relaxant, chamomile has been used to treat a variety of gastrointestinal issues, such as motion sickness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, indigestion, and flatulence. It has also been used to treat anorexia.
There are many different ways that chamomile benefits the body. Due to the presence of several anti-histamine compounds, it is also helpful in lowering allergic reactions and has a well-established anti-inflammatory profile. Furthermore, it has been acknowledged that its ability to mend the mucosa of the gastrointestinal system protects against ulcers.
